Average Teacher for Learning

Birds of a feather flock together. Not quitting keeps them flying.

Hello! I am a high school teacher sharing information. I teach in an urban school with lots of diversity were just under 1800 students attend. It is never boring! Every day is a new adventure. I always ask myself, how can I make a difference today.

It is currently summer break, and I thought I would start my journey of sharing to the world about my teaching experiences. This idea has been stirring in my head for ten years. Making the time for it has been my challenge. As with many of my thoughts, it might take me a little longer to get there, but eventually, I will get there.

In high school, I played softball. During practice, we were required to run. I was last to finish and always redder than anyone else. My coach was encouraging. He told the others that I wasn’t a quitter. It is funny the other day my 10-year daughter said to me, “Well I guess it is a good thing that you are not a quitter.” There are many occasions that I have felt my red flushed face more than any other teacher and slower for that matter but I am still teaching, and I am excited to navigate learning even more today.

I often share with my students the saying “birds of feather flock together.” I learned this from my parents. We are mostly the average of who we associate with on a regular basis. So the question is, who do I hang out with? Currently, Me, Myself and I. Seriously, I hang out with educators that are continuing to develop themselves in this profession. How do I do this? I have challenged myself to seek education and stretched for a Ph.D. as well as an administration endorsement. In the process, I am around others doing the same thing. We share and discuss education and how to improve the process. It is great to be around others that are moving forward as a steward for learning.
